A Safe Haven for Tom & Jerry!

“The Tom & Jerry Caper” -MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - BUT WE DID IT!

I wanted to send a formal thank you to the staff and volunteers of SHHS that tirelessly worked to love, nurture and socialize our special boys, Tom & Jerry. To know the notorious brothers is to love them. Our patience and hard work paid off tenfold. They were accepted and successfully transported to an animal sanctuary near Seattle, WA, on March 4, 2010. It is called Pasado’s Safe Haven.

Pasado's Safe Haven is one of the premiere animal rescue organizations in the United States, dedicated to 24-hour rescue and rehabilitation of dogs, cats and farm animals. Located on 85 pastoral and wooded acres one hour northeast of Seattle, Washington, the sanctuary is home to hundreds of dogs, cats, cows, chickens, ducks, goats, turkeys, pigs, and donkeys. Most arrived from abuse or neglect and now live out their lives in peace. www.pasadosafehaven.org

Tom and Jerry will live at Pasado’s indefinitely. They will be loved, socialized and trained so that someday they will be ready to be adopted into wonderful forever homes. Tom and Jerry are safe, happy and well on their way to mental and emotional recovery at the sanctuary.

The staff at Pasado’s has shown Tom and Jerry the very best in hospitality. The boys live in a real "house" with their very own personal caretaker, Kelly--no more glass doors, no more gawking strangers, no more boredom and no more sitting in a shelter waiting to be adopted. Kelly met the boys and fell in love with them as soon as they stepped out of the van. Kelly is a very experienced animal welfare specialist and lives on the grounds at Pasado’s. Tom and Jerry will have her 24 hour a day care and guidance. They are already very attached to Kelly and they are being socialized with the other sanctuary dogs and new people on a daily basis. The boys get to run and play in fenced horse pastures and are having a blast just being puppies!

I know that every one of the SHHS staff and volunteers have hoped, dreamed, and prayed that Tom and Jerry would have a chance at life, at Pasado’s they have that chance.

Judy Simon and I personally transported Tom and Jerry to Pasado’s Safe Haven via Alaska Airlines. This successful mission would not have been possible without generous contributions from our own personal funds, donations and The generosity of Stacey Hall, President, Southern Hope Humane Society. A huge portion of the expense funding came from SHHS.

If you have already contributed to The Tom and Jerry Caper, thank you. If you haven’t you can still have the opportunity to make a donation directly to SHHS (http://www.southernhope.org/donate.html) or you can send a donation directly to Tom and Jerry at Pasado’s Safe Haven (http://www.pasadosafehaven.org/donate.html).

It means the world to us to ensure that these special puppies have the chance to just be puppies. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Victoria Allen

Brownie Troop #28332 Earns Their "Animal Try-It" Badge!

Local Brownie Troop #28332 decided to find a local Humane Society to donate to so they could earn their "Animal Try-It" Badge this year. As one of their projects they created cat friendly toy mice for all of the cats in our care. They wanted to brighten the days of our kitties until we find them their new forever homes. Troop #28332 (pictured here; Ava, Darby, Isabella, Emory, Riley F., Andie, Sarah, Riley B., and Maddy) are a group of animal lovers who also love to support their community. We thank them for this fun and purposeful service project and congratulate them on earning their "Animal Try-It"  badge!

Zoe Myers and Jenna Leigh Hall join forces to help SHHS!

Last December, Jenna Hall (Pregnancy Pact) met Zoe Myers at her concert to benefit Southern Hope Humane Society and since then the two have joined forces on several projects in the Atlanta area. In March, Zoe and Jenna collected pillows and bedding to give to Southern Hope so animals would not have to sleep on the cold hard concrete. The two were also special guests at an Atlanta middle school to speak in a new program called DREAM. A 16 week curriculum built to help girls develop self esteem, learn responsibility, set and reach goals, solve conflicts and work together as a team.

We are your only online choice for homemade dog biscuits that are baked and sold by kids. Not only will your dog love them, by purchasing these biscuits, you will be helping other homeless pets until they can find a home! Zack (15) and Thomas (10) in Atlanta, along with their cousins, Mary Beth (9) and William (6) in Charleston, South Carolina, donate all of their profits to pet rescue. Thomas (one of the founders of Woof 'Em Down) recently sent us a $100.00 donation from his 11th birthday. He collected donations in leiu of gifts. Happy 6th Birthday, Caroline!

Caroline Morrison made her happy birthday a happy event for our pets. She had all of her guests bring donations for the animals here at the Adoption Center instead of gifts. We would all like to say "Thanks and happy birthday!".
